It is well known that many people enjoy collecting baseball cards as a hobby. Any collector will tell you that nothing is more thrilling than finding that elusive card they need to complete their collection. Baseball card collections are incomplete without rare, vintage cards. These kinds of cards are, naturally, worth a lot more.

Most of the old baseball cards are re-productions but a few are still made from the original material. Now these cards are quite valuable as there are only a few of these cards ever seen in public. A few baseball cards can mean approximately 100 or less. The price of these cards is usually based on the availability and of course the condition of the card within the market.

We are all quite aware of some of these rare baseball cards. You might even remember players such as Honus Wagner as well as Mickey Mantle and Babe Ruth. These players each had amazing baseball careers. They were even collectible in the days while they were still playing!

In many of these rare baseball cards you may see worn corners and edges or even some creases on parts of the cards itself, reason being that for some players the companies which produced their cards had the cards printed on thin and poor quality cardboard paper. Due to the fact that many collectors were only children and fans of the game, the cards themselves were not protected.

Now unless there is a large amount of damage to the cards, these rare baseball cards still have the ability of causing lots of excitement when they appear in public. The main reason for this being the lack of cards which can be found by baseball collectors. For this reason when one of these rare baseball cards like that of the T206 Honus Wagner card surfaces you can see that collectors and wealthy fans themselves are gearing up for a high stakes bidding.

The Topps Company's long association with baseball has made it the best-known name in the baseball card market. Its first set of baseball cards, released in 1951, was intended to be used as a game. In 1952, however, Topps produced the set that brought the modern sports trading card to life. Today the 1952 Topps set is one of the most valuable baseball card sets ever produced.

Most collectors are not able to buy Wagners and Ruths, even if they're serious about card collecting. Recently, MLB cards from the '70s have become great investments for the average collector. MLB cards of 70s are still affordable to most people even though their worth is keep on growing. Many of the MLB cards which can be considered as best can be bought under $300. Since their growth potential is very high they can earn a good profit to the collector of these cards.

Those who collect baseball cards find it very exciting to collect rare baseball cards. There are very few original cards and hence are expensive. There are only 100 or less in existence. The value depends on card's condition. The cards of players like Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle and Honus Wagner who had spectacular career. Poor quality of paper or poor handling of the card is the reasons which affect the condition of the card. Public appearance of these cards creates excitement in wealthy collectors. Since 1952 topps baseball cards are more popular. In recent times mlb cards from the '70s have proven to be a great investment.
