Many weight lifters tend to ignore or lolly gag when it comes to including upper back exercises in their free weightlifting programs.  I guess many feel that since it isn’t a muscle that contributes to physical size or physical attractiveness, they think that they can get away with not lifting the back hard.  What a big mistake all these weight lifters are doing.  They don’t realize how important a strong upper back helps strengthen the rest of the muscles in the body.  That’s why including great upper back exercises to any free weight training program you obtain is important for achieving all your weight lifting goals.

The upper back takes a huge part in how the rest of you body is able to strengthen and build.  Many don’t know that the upper back is there to give the entire body support.  When you do an exercise like squats, you place a heavy barbell on the upper part of the back and without a strong back, you can’t expect to be able to lift a lot of weight.

Not only that, the back is also important to give support in the front of your body.  Have you ever since those weight lifters you are sort of hunched over with their shoulders pointing in like they are carrying a huge backpack.  This happens because these weight lifters only concentrate on strengthening their chest so as their chest gets bigger, the back can’t support the extra weight causing the shoulders to hunch forward.

All the free weightlifting routines that you will probably obtain through the many years you weight lift should contain great upper back routines.  What makes a great back routine is the inclusion of these exercises:  weighted pull-ups, lat pulldowns, bent over rows, and seated rows.  As long as your routines contain at least half of these exercises, you’ll know that you have a great routine.
