Dogs Problem Behavior
August 28th, 2010
The canine behavior grows radically between the ages of 8 and 16 weeks. The environment in which the puppy lives mostly affects the result of what could be his behavior.
A puppy that comes into his new home, has a mind that can be compare to a blank chalkboard. No matter what is written on that chalkboard will influence the Obedience training may or may not help. In most cases, it does not - not by that age.
Recently, a local standard Schnauzer was put to sleep upon being ask by the owners. Almost each member of the family had receive at least one serious bite from the dog. The dog was only 8 months old - still a pup as far as dog trainers’ are concerned.
In its 12 weeks of age, he already bite one of the family member, its final bite at eight months of age. Meanwhile within that period, the bites became progressively getting severe, yet not one single member of the family could bring themselves to properly discipline the dog. They “loved” their dog so much and thought it would be too cruel to discipline the animal.
An incorrect consideration can be a bitter and unneeded cruelty. One must remember that when a dog is placed in a dog catcher’s truck and taken to the pound to be murdered, the blood is on the soul of the dog owner, who thought so little of his pet that he failed to demand respect, and therefore keep his pet under control.
An Innate Instinct
It is just natural instinct for a dog to try to take dominance within the pack. The pack in this case is you and your family. The fact that he will sometimes test you and try to assume control does not mean that he doesn’t love you.
It also doesn’t mean that he don’t show you respect. But if you are always tolerating him, that you’re allowing him to achieve dominance, your dog’s respect and love for you will quickly fade. You then become inferior in his eyes and are destined to be “owned” by your dog.
