Remember to never use wax on a surface finish when cleaning wood flooring. Sometimes it may so happen that you fail to observe the spot for a long time, and stain may go deeper, thus leaving you with no option but to replace the board.
To deal with minor scratches, just rewax if it’s a wax finish floor and buff.. Surface finishes can be treated with touch-up kits made for the purpose. You’ll find these kits at most of the specialized shops. It will contain hardwood floor cleaner too. For dealing with stains caused by food and chunks, use a slightly damp cloth to soak up the material and then carefully scrape the contaminant without damaging the surface of the wood floor. Use of plastic tools for such an eventuality gives better results.
You should take immediate remedial action if a wax floor gets affected by certain oils or greases as they may cause severe damage to such a floor. Use home varnish cleaning for this. This is how you should treat a floor with wax finish: soak up the material thoroughly from the affected spot with a clean dry cloth or sponge, and in the end clean the surface with another dry clean cloth. Sometimes it may be necessary to do it twice or even more.Use mineral spirits and trisodium phosphate (if you have) on a soft cloth to rub the area gently until the problem disappears.
